The largest circulated newspaper in North Bengal
UTTAR BANGA SAMBAD
Published from Siliguri, Coochbehar and Malda
On May 19, 1980 Uttar Banga Sambad made a humble beginning with its Siliguri edition printed in letter press. To cope with the growing circulation, web offset press had to be installed even before its first anniversary. Computerised typesetting was introduced in 1985. Then came hi-speed 4-colour web offset press.
To meet the sub-regional demands, in addition to Siliguri edition, two other editions - Coochbehar and Malda editions were started. Fast-growing circulation forced installation of more hi-speed 4-colour web offset presses.
The growing circulation of Uttar Banga Sambad in the vast areas of North Bengal induced leading Kolkata dailies to bring out North Bengal editions printed at Siliguri. But the growth of Uttar Banga Sambad accelerated with the arrival of Kolkata dailies in North Bengal.
Uttar Banga Sambad’s grip over North Bengal print media market has been tightened further. Out of the total circulation of all the nine Bengali, English and Hindi dailies in North Bengal, the share of Uttar Banga Sambad is more than 80%. The combined share of all other eight dailies in the print media market of North Bengal is less than 20%.
